This also gives a slightly different experience to each playthrough, because it’s entirely unpredictable what weapons you will find and when. With the many millions of combinations available, you never know what attributes the next gun you will find will have. Each gun is also made of five additional parts. ![]() Each gun can be made by one of eight different manufacturers. Six different types of guns exist in the game. You will also find tons and tons of different types of guns. The customization goes beyond pallet swapping (where the only difference is the color), which leads players to become much more attached to their guns than a bunch of polygons should make them. For example, a gun with a melee attack bonus might have a blade on it. The guns and items in Borderlands 2 have distinct visual features depending on their attributes. While many loot-based games succeed due to this mechanic, Borderlands 2 surpasses the competition by delivering randomized goodies with unique appearances and stats. The potential to find the best loot in the most humble locations makes killing enemies and finding chests incredibly exciting and satisfying. Whether it's ammo or health or a new and better weapon, whatever you find will reward your curiosity and pique your appetite for more. Some characters you speak to will offer additional dialogue to explain what's going on while different events and side missions can also be taken up.So much loot, that you will barely see any twice Borderlands 2 makes it feel like Christmas every time you kill an enemy or open a chest. You'll come across beasts wandering around and have to decide whether to fight them or sneak past. Maps are much larger this time around with several points of interest to explore and off-beaten paths to take away from the main story. This serves to highlight the game's new open world mechanics. Make no mistake, there are some pretty crazy characters in The Evil Within 2. This further reflects in some of the side characters you run into. Sebastian actually feels like a real human being who's flawed but also recognizes some of the horror around him rather than being dour all the time. Thankfully, the characters this time around are a lot better handled. However, it helps if you have a good understanding of the first game's events to really appreciate what's happening. You can appreciate the story-telling much better in The Evil Within 2 because it's just plainly better. Sebastian has to face his fears once more and save his daughter but that doesn't mean the same horrors await. Suddenly, out of the blue, he learns that his daughter Lily is alive but she's trapped in a new dangerous world called Union. You're detective Sebastian Castellanos, a man who's lost his family and torn up from the events of the first game. The Evil Within 2 does make up for this by starting players with a better baseline. There are conspiracies, weird technologies, alternate worlds, betrayals and much more to keep track of. The Evil Within is a series that's a lot more complicated than just “man wakes up in a nightmarish world”. Should you play it though, especially if you skipped its predecessor? Let's take a look a few things you should know before buying The Evil Within 2. The Evil Within 2, out now on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, fixes a lot of the issues from the first game while amping up the horror. Tango Gameworks' The Evil Within was a neat but somewhat clunk horror experience, clearly paying homage to survival horror games of old while stuck in that archaic style of gameplay. ![]()
